Ahoy there!!!! Its Nautical Season....
For weeks I’ve browsing through a couple of online retailers and I noticed that our fashion trends still have the military inspiration, I’m sure that almost everyone would notice that stripes and those 3 paired buttons on jeans, shorts and skirts are also coming into trend. It seems were also leaning to a nautical theme in our trends.
I was checking out Forever21 and Zara a couple of weeks ago when I noticed that some of their new arrivals were stripped shirts and those nautical shorts. Then, I was blog hopping and was surprised to see Guess’s new collection and mannequin display were a nautical theme and right after that I saw my friend’s blog about Penshoppe and they also had a nautical collection!
So hello stripped shirts and skirts!!! Hello to buttoned shorts, jeans and skirt.... It seems we’ll be seeing a lot of these marine inspired collections and yes they also fall under a military feel.
Here are some designs that I like…

Wrangler Inspired? I Think NOT!!!
I was browsing around an online shop and a certain brand really shocked me! I just arrived in the office still feeling sleepy, drinking a cup of coffee as I browse around this online shop for my internet report and behold…. A CARBON COPY OF WRANGLER JEANS! Wide eyed and awake I copied the site URL and sent it to my colleagues. We were surprised and laughing about it and they’re selling it for US$58.00 / PHP2490.81!
As a denim designer we do research for inspirations and not copy the exact design, as a colleague said, “What's the use of you being a designer when you just copy it?!”
This is the original design
While this is copied design
You can see that even the back pocket logo and leather patch are also copied. They just changed their font and brand name.
I hope future designers don’t do this mistake.
We DESIGN... We don't IMITATE!!!

Banana T-Shirt
YOU GET THIS….
My colleague designed this a few weeks ago for a client but our boss was reluctant in presenting it. I really like the humor in it, my colleague even wore this the whole day and every time he passes by a different department they’d really smile or laugh. It was a good ice breaker if you’re having a rough day.
What do you guys think about the shirt? Would you buy this?

Congratulations Harold Sevilla for Markus
I just wrote this email and sent it as an email report for my boss, superiors and colleagues along with the sister companies. I really had to do it and congratulate my colleague.
"Before going to bed and before Day 2 of Philippine Fashion Week gets out of my system, I'd like to congratulate one of our colleagues, Harold Sevilla, for his designs for Markus. I lost count of all the jeans and top that was used tonight for SM Department Store’s fashion show. I have to admit that the fashion show is a success. As the models were “brisk walking” on the runway/catwalk all eyes stuck to those jeans and cotton candy (as I called it) v-neck shirts that was layered with other colored polo shirts.
The never ending “red jeans” is still my favorite and yes it was also worn by one of the models and was also used in the finale walk.
I’ll be grabbing the pictures from bloggers (with their consent) once they’ve uploaded it on their blog or flickr accounts.
CONGRATULATIONS again for Harold… Keep up the great work…"

NiCaVia introduces Denim Designer
After working in the call center industry for almost 3 years, I finally got tired and started to find a normal job. As 2010 arrived, I’ve sent out 33 job applications on the internet, after a week I got a text message saying I got a job interview and exam at one apparel company.
One of my longest work as a graphic artist was also from the same industry and since I had some experience designing jeans, they endorsed me to their sister company that were a supplier for a number of local brands. I was scheduled for a second interview and exam the following week. To my surprise there wasn’t any exam but just an interview and my job offer! I never imagined that I’d get the job, didn’t even think I’d still have some ideas on designing. I started working Feb 1, 2010 and I’m learning a lot. Aside from designing, there’s also doing research on fashion forecast and what’s other denim brands have designed that I can use for inspiration.
